This week has seen a plethora of jerks who could easily have taken our Jerk of the Week honors. From the race-baiting Al Sharpton to President Obama’s insipid speech about the Zimmerman verdict, the choices were many. However, one rose head and shoulders from the pack to take the prize this week. Spitting in the face of Americans everywhere, Rolling Stone magazine founder Jann Wenner put Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the surviving Boston Marathon bomber, on its cover.
It seems that Jann Wenner seeks to glorify terrorism with its puff piece on how such a nice young man could turn to terrorism and the cover showing Tsarnaev. In what looks like a desperate attempt to spur magazine sales, Jann Wenner insults Boston and the victims of the bombing. Let us not forget that 3 people died (including an 8 year old boy whose little sister lost a leg to the blast) and 264 people injured, with many needing limbs amputated. Also, Tsarnaev and his brother gunned down a university policeman later on.
Despite the horrific carnage inflicted by Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his brother, there have been many losers who have championed him. It seems that a lot of sick young women have been captured by his looks and they claim that he was set up. What is astounding is that a national publication would seek to glorify a terrorist in such a blatant manner, but Rolling Stone has long been an advocate of progressive liberalism in which America is always the bad guy. Those who have seen the cover know that it is a softly-lit photo in the manner of rock stars and other musicians that have graced the cover of Rolling Stone. If they wanted to use Tsarnaev’s photo, why use that particular one or why not include a photo of those killed by him and his brother on the cover as well?
The reaction to the cover has been extremely negative with many chains refusing to sell it. Boston Mayor Ton Menino and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick have accused Rolling Stone of giving the terrorist “celebrity treatment.” A Massachusetts State Police photographer, Sergeant Sean Murphy, got so enraged by the cover that he released photos of Tsarnaev from the night he was captured to counter the rock-star makeover. He has since been suspended for violating official procedures, but most believe that he’ll get a slap on the wrist for his actions….and not to mention free drinks from the people of Boston!
Overall, Jann Wenner and the staff of Rolling Stone have been truly unapologetic in their actions and seek to justify their decisions. Honestly, we don’t need a long puff piece to figure out why the brothers became murderers. The answer is simple….they were evil. Progressives cannot stand moral absolutes as it negates their worldview of moral relativism, but the truth cannot be denied. For showing no regard for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing and for glorifying Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, Jann Wenner is our Jerk of the Week.
